Eva Mendes has apparently joined the star-studded cast for fantasy thriller The Spirit.
The US actress will join Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L Jackson and Gabriel Macht in the movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Eva, who was last seen opposite Mark Wahlberg in We Own The Night, seems set to play the beautiful Sand Saref.
The film, which will have newcomer director Frank Miller at the helm, follows a young cop, played by Gabriel, who returns from the dead as The Spirit, fighting crime in the shadowy alleyways of Central City.
Sand was The Spirit’s teenage lover, but when The Spirit’s uncle accidentally killed Sand’s father, they were torn apart by a family feud.
Filming will begin in New Mexico in October. It’s thought the film will hit cinema screens in 2009.
Eva, 33, is known for movies such as Ghost Rider and Hitch, which saw her starring opposite Will Smith.
Comic book character The Spirit was created by comic writer Will Eisner.
