Jennifer Lawrence showed off a new short bob do this week after paying her hairdressers a visit just hours before she hit the red carpet. While we’re not a big fan of her new look (who would cut off that hair?), it got us thinking about other celebrity hair disasters. Here, we take a look at the top 5 celebrity haircuts that should never have happened…
Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence bravely went for a new short bob do, showing it off for the first time at last week’s GLAAD Media Awards. She traded in her luscious long dark blonde locks for a shorter – and blonder – alternative, which she had done just one hour before her red carpet appearance. The look came complete with side-swept bangs too.
Our verdict: We’re sorry to say it but Jen should never have gone for the chop. Her new do forms a harsher frame for her face and her fringe is too wispy to have an impact. When it comes to having glamorous up-dos styled for future red carpet events, she’ll also now be far more limited.
Miley Cyrus
Miley went for an extreme new do last summer, chopping all of her golden-blonde locks off in favour of a short pixie-style haircut. She also left her warming tones behind and opted for a peroxide blonde shade instead. Miley then preceded to have some fun with her new look, waxing and gelling it into punk styles. Naturally, the former Disney star received a barrage of abuse from her not-so-open-minded fans.
Our verdict: This is one of the biggest travesties in celebrity hair history. Miley should have treasured her long locks. Her new cropped style not only makes her look far less feminine, it completely changes her look forcing her to dress to fit the haircut. We must admit her face shape does suit the chiseled look though, and after she admitted she ‘never felt more me’ after the daring cut, who are we to judge?
Charlize Theron
Charlize shocked the nation when she had her blonde hair snipped off to reveal a short cropped do. She had previously showcased a stunning sandy-blonde shoulder-length style so this new edgy look took some getting used to.
Our verdict: We prefer Charlize with longer locks but seeing as this short do was done for her role in Mad Max: Fury Road, we can’t complain as it will undoubtedly be worth the pain. For future reference though, Charlize should definitely steer clear of the scissors as this style looks a little boyish on her.
Lady Gaga
Last year Lady Gaga went for a rather drastic shaven-head look. She wasn’t 100% bald but the back of her hair had been shaved into an odd triangle shape (on which she later had a tattoo inked). However, Gaga did leave the front of her hair in tact so still looked glamorous when people looked at her face-on.
Our verdict: Gaga is the ultimate style chameleon. She’s had blue hair, grey hair, pink hair, orange hair… we could go on. This is just one in a long line of crazy styles and although it’s not our cup of English tea, as it was done in a special tribute to the late mum of a close photographer friend, we’re putting this down as just another ‘Gaga’ moment.
Scarlett Johansson
In 2003 the ultra-gorgeous Scarlett Johansson showed off a rather odd mullet-style hairdo. Quite why she ever thought a messy do, that looked more like it had been hacked off than snipped off, would impress is beyond us. Fans were used to seeing her preened and proper on the red carpet too so this look caused quite the stir.
Our verdict: This was not a good look for Scarlett and made her look like one of Peter Pan’s Lost Boys. Luckily she has learnt her lesson and now only steps out with hair curled, straightened or rolled to perfection. She’s also ditched those dodgy blonde highlights.
