Scarlett Johansson has said her new album, Break Up, “perfectly captured” her life at the time she recorded it.
The 24-year-old Hollywood actress recorded the album of duets with singer/songwriter Pete Yorn in a garage studio in 2006, the year she split from boyfriend of two years Josh Hartnett.
Scarlett said: “I always thought of it as just a small project between friends – I’ve loved the album ever since I heard it complete, it perfectly captured where I was in my life at the time.”
Yorn said the idea for the album – to be released on September 7 – came to him in a dream.
Scarlett, who is now married to Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, said: “It sounded like an interesting little adventure, the idea of two people vocalising their relationship through duets.”
The actress released her debut album Anywhere I Lay My Head, a cover of Tom Waits songs, in May 2008, but Break Up was actually recorded two years before.
