Scarlett Johansson is competing with Gossip Girl’s
Blake Lively for the lead role in sci-fi movie Gravity.
The Lost In Translation star is after the lead part in the film about a female astronaut who gets lost in space and has to fight her way back to Earth so that she can be reunited with her daughter.
But she faces stiff competition from Lively who is also being considered for the part, according to Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog.
Robert Downey Jr has already been cast in the film, which is being directed by Alfonso Cuaron.
Marion Cotillard has also auditioned for the role – which was once offered to Angelina Jolie – but Johansson and Lively are thought to be the hot favourites.
The film is being dubbed a contemporary survival thriller and will feature at least 60 per cent CGI (computer-generated imagery).
Gravity is expected to start shooting in 2011.
