The man arrested for hacking
Scarlett Johansson’s phone and leaking nude photos of the star on the internet has apologised, saying he was ‘addicted’.
35-year-old Christopher Chaney was arrested on Wednesday following a year-long investigation by the FBI and has been charged with 26 offences of accessing and damaging computers, identity theft and wiretapping.
He has since admitted his guilt to journalists, telling a Florida news station: ‘It started as curiosity and it turned into just being addicted to seeing behind the scenes of the lives of the people you see on the big screen every day.’
Chaney is accused of hacking personal information from a number of celebrities including singer Christina Aguilera and actress Mila Kunis, but has now publicly apologised.
‘I deeply apologise,’ he said. ‘I know what I did was probably one of the worst invasions of privacy… I know it was wrong and have to face it and go forward.’
FBI assistant director Steven Martinez said of the arrest: ‘This comes as a relief to the victims, many of whom suffered great distress.’
Johansson previously attacked the hacking as ‘unjust’ and ‘wrong’, saying: ‘Just because you’re in the spotlight, or just because you’re an actor, doesn’t mean you’re not entitled to your own personal privacy.’
