The Avengers assembled for an amazing cause on Friday – to celebrate a $7.425 million (£5.7 million) donation to benefit seriously ill children in hospitals around the globe.
Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Scarlett Johannsson, Brie Larson, Robert Downey Jr. and Jeremy Renner unveiled the news at Disney Resort in Anaheim, California with hundreds of children from locals Boys & Girls Clubs.
‘More than any time, it’s a time to give back to these courageous kids who inspire us,’ said Robert, who plays Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Disney donated $1 million (£766,000) to the Starlight Children’s Foundation, a charity in the UK and US which aims to ‘brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families through hospital play, distraction and entertainment services, wish granting and our Starlight Escapes’.
Other companies who donated money to the fund included the LEGO group, Hasbro, Funko and Amazon.
‘I’m grateful and touched to be a part of this group,’ Paul – who plays Ant-Man – said.
‘I work with a lot of kids and families. It’s not just the kids. It’s the entire family. The parents, the brothers, the sisters. This is a real honour to give back. I would like to say the Ant-Man toy is particularly small.
‘So when you’re walking around barefoot, just be careful. It’s a little bit like stepping on a LEGO.’
Scarlett, who will finally get her own standalone movie after 11 years, added: ‘It’s not a bad day in the office when you get to come to Disneyland.
‘I’ve been a huge fan of Disney for like forever. I come from a big, Disney loving family. To be here with my fellow Avengers and all these kids, it’s just great. It’s such a great way to spend the day.’
Avengers: Endgame will hit cinemas on 25 April.
