Scarlett Johansson claims listening to David Bowie was her sexual awakening.
The Lost In Translation star – who starred with Bowie in The Prestige – was delighted he sang backing vocals on her new album as she accredits his music with making her feel sexy for the first time.
Scarlett, 23, told The Daily Telegraph: “I first realised I was a sexual being listening to David Bowie, like, oh my God, what are these tingling feelings? I mean, when I was young.”
The Hollywood sex symbol – whose new album Anywhere I Lay my Head is a cover of Tom Waits’ songs – describes herself as “an artist”.
She said: “I don’t feel like an actor or a singer – I am able to focus wherever my mind wanders. It’s a different field of creativity. I’m not a musician. I can sing. I can play the kazoo.”
Scarlett revealed she decided to record an album because “I just knew how fantastic it sounded in the shower”, but is not interested in pop stardom.
She said: “I don’t follow pop. I don’t really know what’s in the charts. I don’t need to be J-Lo, I’m not trying to make a hit record and have a second career opening ice rinks at the Rockefeller centre. I don’t feel I have to prove anything to anybody. I am over the moon, deeply moved by this album, honoured to have had the chance to make it. It’s something I love, and I love to share it with people.”
